MEDITATION CENTER

LOW ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT

The Meditation Center in Charlottenburg, Berlin, is an idea for a design of a residence for the Westend district of Berlin-Charlottenburg. The project aims to transform an abandoned allotment garden, unused for almost a decade, into a space for community use.

The northern part of the site can accommodate up to 12 retreat participants, creating a clear distinction between public and private areas with a shared communal space in the center. On the southern side, a café will invite locals to enjoy the garden landscape. The center is designed with a focus on movement and mental well-being, offering large open areas for various activities. Each room is designed for flexible use and opens onto a private garden section. Inside, the rooms feature built-in cupboard systems, clad in oak like the rest of the space. This setup provides a wide range of possibilities, allowing the rooms to be adapted for different purposes. With a strong emphasis on sustainability, the center will incorporate reusable and natural building materials while preserving the existing greenery of the site. The materials used will consist exclusively of biodegradable resources sourced from local producers. Each module will feature a wooden structure, cellulose insulation, and clay. Thanks to these natural materials—particularly the clay—each module will be a breathable building that can store and release heat, adapting seamlessly to the surrounding environment.

LIBARY AND COWORKING

This  design for a meeting point in Berlin is  a hybrid space combining a café, open and closed working areas, and a library. The building is divided into multiple levels, creating angled spaces that are private and connected to everything at the same time , including large seating areas between the levels. As you ascend to higher levels, the ambiance becomes quieter, ideal for focused work. The wooden construction and flooring not only help to insulate sound but also create a homely, feel-good atmosphere.

RENOVATION PLAN

The renovation of Bleibtreustraße in Berlin-Charlottenburg is an idea for a design for  a historic building located on a busy street in the area. Constructed in 1915, this building is under monument protection. After World War II, nearly half of it had to be demolished, serving as a somber reminder of a difficult past. The owner now intends to restore and reconstruct the building based on historical blueprints to create additional living space. The exterior will be faithfully restored to its original form, while the interior can allow for some slight variations. The main challenge is to comply with the regulations governing listed buildings.

BERLIN WALL MONUMENT

View to the west, Commemoration at Jungfernsee. An idea for a monument in Potsdam.
From 1961 to 1990, another border area of the former GDR stretched between Glienicker Brücke and Berliner Straße. There is little left at this site to remind us of the former barrier and border formation that is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The plan was to create a place that invites visitors to linger and remember.

For the design, a central memorial was planned between the former service building and the guardroom of the south-east border crossing. For this purpose, a monument made of processed concrete was designed, the shape of which blends in with the visual axes of the surroundings. The smooth concrete surface reflects the static design language.

The memorial cannot be overlooked from Berliner Strasse and is intended to invite visitors to come and see it. The cubature is abstractly reminiscent of a pile of rubble and establishes a reference to the historical past. With an extroverted gesture, the cube juts out over the edge of the shore and the lake.
